Professor of maternal and infant health receives RCM Fellowship

A professor who leads and champions research on maternal and infant health at Sheffield Hallam University has been honoured with an RCM Fellowship.

Hora Soltani's research focuses on care models to reduce health inequalities for mothers and babies from the most disadvantaged and vulnerable backgrounds. Specifically, Hora’s work has related to maternal nutrition and obesity, infant feeding, perinatal mental health, adolescent pregnancy, and migration.

In December 2020 Hora was awarded an MBE for her services to higher education and impact on maternal and infant health, guiding maternity policy development at national and international levels. 

Commenting, Chief Executive of the Royal College of Midwives, Gill Walton said:

“It is with great pleasure I congratulate Hora on becoming an RCM Fellow. Hora’s passion for improving the lives of disadvantaged and vulnerable pregnant women in the UK and in low- and middle-income countries around the world is inspiring.  Her work over the years has demonstrated a high level of impact both nationally and internationally and she is well respected within the midwifery community.”

Hora Soltani is an internationally recognised figure in her area of research, with hundreds of peer review publications and appearances at conferences around the globe. Not content with just her research work Hora has also worked as an expert midwife advisor for the World Health Organisation (WHO) and as an acting editor and senior editorial board member for journals such as BMCPregnancy and Childbirth

 

Receiving her RCM Fellowship, Professor Hora Soltani said:

“As a midwife, there is no greater honour for me than to become a fellow of the Royal College of Midwives. I hope my fellowship helps me in raising the importance of maternal and infant health further, filling the gap in maternity healthcare for all and reducing inequalities for marginalised sub-groups. I am truly delighted to receive this fellowship as an accelerator for achieving my goal in providing better maternity health experiences for all.”
