Congratulations on becoming a student midwife! You are now on the first step towards a fantastic career providing care and support for women, babies and their families.
At the RCM, we know that your first few weeks as a new student midwife can be a hectic time and it can be a bit overwhelming. You’ll be bombarded with freebies during fresher’s week and you may even end up signing up for something that you have no idea what it is for – just because you wanted a free tote bag!

The RCM is the only professional organisation and trade union dedicated to serving midwifery and the whole midwifery team – and that includes student midwives.
We offer unique resources that will support your studies such as member-only access to i-learn, our online learning platform; you will receive a bi-monthly copy of Midwives magazine; and you can also access the RCM Library which hosts almost 12,000 books 457 journals as well as artefacts on current practice and the history of midwifery.
Our Annual Conference is free to attend for all RCM members and includes a dedicated strand for student midwives. We also organise events across the UK on a whole range of topics.
In April 2019 MIDIRS the midwifery digest became part of the RCM and provides additional support for your studies with its midwifery specific reference database and over 250,000 reference articles as well as first-hand help with searching for information.
It is not just help with your studies. We also provide workplace advice and support, professional and clinical guidance and information, and provide £5 million Medical Malpractice Insurance - the cover you need to carry out your midwifery duties on placement.
