UKMCS Midwives’ Symposium
What all midwives need to know about signs & symptoms of peripartum cardiac disease
The UK Maternal Cardiology Society is excited to present it's first symposium aimed specifically at midwives. If you want to enhance your knowledge of cardiovascular disease and the physiological changes to the cardiovascular system during pregnancy, birth and postpartum, then this is the symposium for you!
Join us to learn from leading experts in the field of maternal cardiology with a true multi-disciplinary focus. This exciting initiative will cover:
- The importance of the midwife in identifying cardiac symptoms in pregnancy
- Learning from lived experience
- Overview of cardiac physiology - changes in pregnancy, labour and postpartum
- Taking a cardiac specific history – what to ask & how to document
- Symptoms of cardiac disease in detail – what do midwives need to know?
- Mental health sequelae of peripartum cardiac disease
- Expert panel Q&A
Midwives have a critical role in recognising when symptoms are not normal and referring women for further investigations and diagnosis. Early symptoms of cardiac disease can overlap with normal physiological symptoms of pregnancy. Attending this Symposium will enhance your practice by providing you with the knowledge and skills to know how to differentiate normal from abnormal signs and symptoms in the peripartum period.
