Delivering a gold standard of bereavement care webinar

This webinar hosted by members of the student midwife forum will raise awareness about bereavement care particularly for student midwives on placement. The panel will discuss how to deliver 'gold standard care' to the whole family. They will address the need for a thorough debriefing for all the maternity team following a bereavement and how to support student midwives with their training and reflections. Supporting a family through a bereavement is a challenging and stressful time for all. This webinar is a safe space to ask questions and gain insightful knowledge from bereavement experts who can help you on your midwifery journey.

Stephanie Thompson, Bereavement Midwife Specialist, Salisbury District Hospital

I qualified as a midwife in 2009 and moved into the Bereavement Midwife role at UHD NHS Foundation Trust in 2015.  In 2021 I joined Salisbury NHS foundation trust as Bereavement Midwife, this was a new role for the trust.  My role involves supporting families experiencing the loss of baby during pregnancy or shortly after birth, emotionally and practically.  I also support and educate staff involved in caring for these families.  I have organised a yearly ‘Wave of light’ event at Salisbury Cathedral for the last 2 years and am working on starting a peer support group for the local area.  Another side to my role is leading on national recommendations related to bereavement for the trust.
