The NMC has announced Dr Anna van der Gaag as the new independent chair of the midwifery panel.
Anna, who is a visiting professor at the University of Surrey, will chair her first meeting today (22 October 2018).
As former chair of the Health and Care Professions Council, Anna is a non-executive director at Health Education England and the Kent Surrey and Sussex Academic Health Science Network and a founding member of the Q Community, a quality improvement network led by the Health Foundation.
NMC interim chief executive and registrar Sue Killen said: ‘I am delighted to welcome Anna to the midwifery panel. She brings with her a wealth of experience in regulation and the wider health and care sector and I look forward to working with her.
‘This is an exciting time for midwifery as we develop ambitious new education standards for midwives. The panel’s valuable advice on this and wider midwifery related matters will continue to play a critical role as we move forward in the coming months.’
The midwifery panel provides high-level, strategic advice to the NMC about midwifery and maternity matters.
