NHS Voices sing for NHS70
By Julie Griffiths on 12 July 2018 NHS
More than 50 NHS staff and a host of pop stars have come together to produce a cover of With a little help from my friends to celebrate 70 years of the NHS and to raise money for NHS charities.
The NHS choir of midwives, surgeons, administrators and more have been joined by numerous music stars such as Seal, Tony Hadley and Nile Rogers to name a few to create the single.
The song was released on 6 July and has had to compete not only with the usual new releases in the chart, but also the resurgence of ‘Three Lions’, but it is hoped that with public support it could still reach number one in the UK chart.
NHS communications specialist and co-founder of the project Joe Blunden said: ‘We are just a group of ordinary NHS staff that wanted to do something big for our co-workers. To think that we’ve been the subject of a prime-time documentary and recorded at Abbey Road is the stuff of dreams, and we hope everyone in the NHS has seen just how valued they are. We also hope people keep downloading, as every one means more money for NHS charities.’
A multitude of film stars, comedians and TV personalities have also shown their support for the choir, including Michael Sheen, Dawn French, Chris Evans as well as Sir Paul McCartney.
The single, With a little help from my friends by NHS Voices, is available on iTunes and Amazon as well as streaming services.
