RCM supports first e-learning personalised care module for midwives and MSWs

The Royal College of Midwives (RCM) has supported the Personalised Care Institute (PCI) to produce the first personalised care e-learning module for midwives, maternity support workers (MSW) and other maternity staff. Kathryn Gutteridge, the RCM’s President, is one of the module’s co-authors, alongside a service user and other maternity experts.

Called Personalised care and support planning – Maternity, the free module takes just 30 minutes to complete. It also counts towards CPD points once the pre and post module assessments are undertaken. 

“Midwives and MSWs ensure that care is driven by women and their needs and work incredibly hard to ensure women get the care and support that is right for them,” said Kathryn Gutteridge. “This short course is a quick and efficient way for midwives and MSWs to refresh and update their knowledge and will help them to deliver even better personalised care for women.”

The interactive module takes learners though the importance of personalised care and how to apply its core principles in their everyday practice. It also covers national guidance for informed decision making, alongside consultation skills and methods. The issue of consent is also addressed in the module, including the importance of the Montgomery court case which changed the test for consent in the UK.

I’d like to thank the authors for their hugely valuable inputs; their wide-ranging expertise in the field of maternity care is absolutely fundamental to us being able to launch this informative evidence-based training.”
