New labour guidance resource for women
on 23 September 2019 Emma's Diary
The RCM has developed a new section in the Emma's Diary Pregnancy Guide and Guide to Labour & Birth. These will provide pregnant women with information on the RCM's Care in Labour blue-top guidance, with the aim of supporting conversations between midwives and the women in their care. Included are suggested questions that women might wish to ask their midwife, and a summary of the information and recommendations covered by the new guidance.
These new resources will increase women's awareness of essential considerations and guidance relating to labour. Information within the Emma's Diary Pregnancy Guide describes the key health professionals who provide care in pregnancy and offers information on options for places of birth and women’s choices after caesarean section. The new section in the Guide to Labour and Birth also discusses birth choices, along with managing several aspects of labour, preventing perineal tears, cutting the cord, and placenta delivery preferences.
The RCM formed an Alliance partnership with Emma's Diary in 2016, in order to provide information and support to new and expectant mothers. This partnership also provides access to consumer insight on pregnancy, birth and postnatal issues.
The RCM's guidance has been published across eight pages in Emma's Diary's Guide to Labour and Birth and four pages in the Pregnancy Guide. Both publications can be viewed online and copies of the Pregnancy Guide and Labour Information Pack, including the new Guide to Labour & Birth, can be ordered at [email protected] or by calling Emma's Diary on 01628 535 482.
