Leading for Maternity Improvement
on 05 August 2019 Leadership
As part of the RCM’s commitment to career development for midwives and maternity support workers, we have a launched a new six-month programme, Leading for Maternity Improvement.
Aimed at existing and aspiring band 7 midwives, the programme focuses on four key areas, based on principles of authentic and emotionally intelligent leadership:
- Leading self: Who am I?
- Interpersonal leadership: How do I engage with others?
- Leading change: How do I lead service improvement?
- Team leadership: How do I lead others?
Participants on the programme benefit from a range of learning and development opportunities, including four face-to-face one-day workshops; supported online learning via the RCM’s i-learn platform; development of a personally chosen improvement project; workplace mentoring to integrate online, classroom and project learning; and one-to-one coaching, through which participants can explore future career aspirations beyond the life of the programme.
On completion of the programme, participants have the opportunity to attain a Certificate of Endorsement or a Certificate of Development from the Institute of Leadership and Management, for which the RCM is a recognised provider.
