The Department of Health & Social Care has today (9 February 2020) announced plans to develop flexible training pathways for medical professionals.

Responding to the Government’s announcement, Gill Walton, Chief Executive of the Royal College of Midwives, said:

“Every day, our midwives and maternity support workers (MSWs) do a fantastic job providing high quality care for women and babies across the country. All too often, though, they are doing so in maternity services that are under-resourced, with staff stretching to cover vacancies and sickness. We are pleased that the Government has recognised the need to recruit more midwives and MSWs, something the RCM has long called for. Moving forward, we need to ensure that we build upon, not compromise, the high standards of UK training that protect the safety of women and babies and are recognised worldwide.”
