The Royal College of Midwives (RCM) has welcomed the Government’s decision to include midwives and social workers in the group of healthcare workers entitled to automatic visa extensions having initially excluded them.
Commenting, RCM’s Head of Health and Social Policy Sean O’ Sullivan said:
“We are happy that the Government have listened to our calls and have reversed their unusual decision to not include midwives from automatically extending their visa while working in the NHS during this global pandemic. This will be a relief for many RCM members have had weeks of worry that they would face losing their legal working status when their current visa expired. The Government needs to show that they are on the same side as overseas midwives who are staffing NHS maternity services during this national crisis and this decision will go towards that.”
