Glasgow midwife and RCM union representative wins top UK award
By RCM on 14 March 2018 RCM Annual Midwifery Awards
A midwife from NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde has won one of the UK’s top midwifery prizes at the Royal College of Midwives (RCM) Annual Awards last week. Lisa Allan is a joint winner of the RCM Members’ Champion Award sponsored by Thompsons Solicitors, for her work as a RCM union representative-
Lisa was instrumental over the past year in supporting the RCM’s Caring for You campaign at the local level. This campaign aims to improve the health and wellbeing of staff, so that they in turn can deliver even better care for women, babies and their families.
She was highly involved with the RCM’s activities for International Day of the Midwife and actively used social media to promote this along with organising a range of events around it.
Among her many initiatives is the help Lisa gives to the student midwives she works with. Lisa provides them with support and guidance, which is crucial for those who will be the midwives of the future.
Lisa was presented with her award at the Royal College of Midwives Annual Midwifery Awards at a ceremony in The Brewery, London on the 6th March 2017.
Lisa Allan, said: “I am delighted to have won the RCM members champion award for recognition of my work in supporting members and sharing in my passion for midwifery care.
Stephen Cavalier, Chief Executive of Thompsons Solicitors said: “Thompsons is proud to sponsor the RCM Members’ Champion award which highlights the excellent work done by RCM reps throughout the UK. It is fantastic that this year’s award focuses on the link between improving health and wellbeing of midwifery staff and improving care for mothers and babies.
“Congratulations to Lisa on her thoroughly deserved award. Her work, particularly with student midwives, has promoted a safer and better working environment for all her colleagues.”
Gill Walton, Chief Executive and General Secretary of the Royal College of Midwives, said: “This award celebrates the work of our workplace representatives and their value to the workplace and our members. In Lisa we have a wonderful example of someone who works so hard to ensure not just that we have an active and effective branch, but that this in turn contributes to a better working environment and ultimately even better care for women, babies and their families. She is truly an asset to her workplace, the profession and the RCM.”
Greater Glasgow and Clyde also picked up another award with Mary Hannaway and Rhona Wilson winning the RCM Award for Excellence in Maternity Care.
