Midwives at RCH celebrate IDM 2019 Strictly-style

A couple of midwives from Royal Cornwall Hospital will be trading their scrubs for sparkly outfits and dancing shoes in a huge strictly-style fundraising event, in aid to raise money for their chosen charity.

They will join twelve couples, with a mix of Royal Cornwall Hospital staff and members of the public and will be put through rigorous training as they aspire to lift the much-coveted Glitter Ball Trophy at the final event on 5 May.

"I started a journey with a bunch of people I didn't know, now I can't imagine not meeting with them weekly to dance and create an event which is going to sparkle. I have been fortunate enough to be picked as a midwife to take part in a multi professional come dance with us, in this journey I have met some incredible people who have become friends and I don't want it to end.

"I went into the competition having no idea what to expect and am coming out with a healthy amount of money for my Caring for you maternity fund, a new bunch of friends, a spray tan and a dance partner who I only met six weeks ago. Tobie my dance partner is also raising money for a maternity specific fund and we were partnered up for the event by the organiser following our speed dancing session. He brings his experience of maternity as a very positive one that his nephew was born at 27 weeks gestation and because of the care and attention they were given they wanted to give something back, so Tobie and I will be dancing our socks off to try and bring that glitter ball to maternity."

"I was driven to do come dance as secretly always wanted to do something like it! I thought what a wonderful opportunity and knew I would regret it if I didn't."

"I love what I do but unfortunately do not always have the extra bits to make my job that extra little bit better, so by doing this I would raise funds to enhance our practice. Also, I felt it is important to raise morale doing something of a positive nature, meeting others from across the trust. I have totally loved every minute and cannot wait for the 5 May so share my stories with everyone."
