Following successful recruitment into all branch officer roles at the end of 2020, the Guildford & District Branch decided to hold a ‘Relaunch week’ at the beginning of February by holding various events to thank members for their hard work during the pandemic, improve staff morale, and promote the RCM’s Caring for You Campaign. As a branch we were aware that the pandemic has taken a real toll on our members and we really wanted them to feel supported and cared for by their RCM Branch.
Our main aim was to show our members that they were cared for, who their RCM team were, how we can help them, and to improve communication. To do this we had our photos taken, and introduced ourselves on our social media pages, and on the new noticeboard our Chairperson Emma Brown designed. Our secretary Anabel Martinez-Payne launched our new Instagram page as another avenue of communicating with members, and Steward Pam Gregory launched a branch newsletter as a means of communicating with members about branch activities, events, and RCM news.
As a thank you to all our members, we gifted them pamper packs made up of face masks and pamper products kindly donated by L’Oreal which were very well received by all. We also put together some ‘freshen up’ hampers for the staff toilets in all areas to enable staff to have small comforts to make them feel more human whilst on shift.
Our chairperson Emma Brown ran a competition all week on our social media pages, with the winner Hollie Spiers receiving a bottle of gin kindly donated by Silent Pool.
To finish off the week, Chairperson Emma and Steward Pam hosted a quiz night which had a great turnout and loads of laughs. The winners received some great prizes, with our Head of Midwifery Amy Stubbs winning the top prize.
Following the week, we have received some really positive feedback and now aim to host an event or activity each month, our next being celebrating ‘Random Act of Kindness Day’ on the 17th February.
