Robert Gordon University’s (RGU) School of Nursing and Midwifery will host an event to show the benefits of midwifery as a career.

The Midwifery Insight Afternoon will be an opportunity for school leavers and anyone interested in changing career across Grampian, the Highlands and Tayside to meet with academics, current students and service users to learn about the experience of being a midwife.

Over the course of several interactive workshops, prospective students will hear about course details and potential placements with RGU’s healthcare partners across the North of Scotland.

There will also be an opportunity to speak with women who have gone through childbirth and talk about their experience of midwifery care.

Senior midwifery lecturer and lead midwife for education Fiona Gibb said the afternoon will be the first event of its kind for midwifery at RGU and staff and students are looking forward to sharing their skills and stories with potential future students.

‘We have benefitted from working in partnership with our clinical colleagues at NHS Grampian, NHS Tayside, NHS Highland and the RCM, as together we work to address the growing need for skilled midwives across the country,’ Fiona said.

She added that as well as learning more about midwifery; there will be staff on hand to help people to navigate the application process.

‘So, whether you are leaving school or looking to change your career, midwifery is an ideal and rewarding option for many people looking to fulfil their potential,’ she said.

The Midwifery Insight Afternoon taking place on 22 August is currently fully booked, but for more information on future opportunities and to register interest in case of a cancelation, contact Fiona at [email protected]
