Midwives at Medway NHS named Kellogg's All-Bran Midwifery Service of the Year

Midwives and maternity support workers (MSWs) from Medway NHS Foundation Trust are today celebrating having scooped theKellogg’s All- Bran Award for Midwifery Service of the Year at the Royal College Midwives (RCM) Annual Midwifery Awards 2019 on March 5th.

Members of the midwifery team from Medway picked up their prestigious award at a special awards ceremony in London yesterday (March 5th).  BBC One Show presenter Alex Jones presented the winning midwifery service with a special trophy.

The Kellogg’s All-Bran Award for Midwifery Service of the Year recognises excellence in significant improvements and innovation in the provision of maternity care. The judges consider in this category maternity services that show a real commitment to improving team work within multi-disciplinary teams.

Commenting, Gill Walton Chief Executive and General Secretary at the RCM said; “I wish to congratulate each and every member of the midwifery team at Medway NHS Foundation Trust for all the great work they’ve done to improve the care that they deliver.

“Medway  is an excellent example of a service that has been consistently seeking to improve the maternity service it delivers and they have  an engaged, enthusiastic and empowered team of midwives supporting and wider multi disciplinary   team implementing those improvements which are resulting in high quality care for women and their babies.”

Medway NHS Foundation Trust Head of Midwifery, Dot Smith, said: “We are absolutely delighted to win this award, and to receive national recognition from our professional body, the RCM. 

“Our midwives are truly amazing, and this award is testament to their hard work and dedication. They work tirelessly to deliver safe and high quality care, working with women, to provide a truly women-centred service.

“Overall, I feel incredibly proud to lead an amazing team who consistently receive wonderful feedback from patients for going the extra mile. We hope to use this as a platform to build and improve our service for mothers and their families across Medway and Swale.’’

Medway NHS Foundation Trust Chief Executive, James Devine, said ‘I am so proud that the excellent work of our fantastic midwifery colleagues has been recognised by the RCM.

“Our maternity team is a real inspiration and an example of the brilliant care we aim to provide at Medway – this award is a true acknowledgement of the consistently outstanding job they all do. Well done to the entire team!’’
